Mike first began replacing roofs with a local roofing contractor in 2009, and has been a Partner/Owner of his own companies since 2014. In the past 13 years he has overseen more than one thousand residential installs of every type of roof on the market.

Our options for residential roofing include the following:

Thanks to its popularity, replacement shingles and materials for repair are always readily available to support asphalt shingle roofing. A reliable and good-looking solution, asphalt shingle roofing is not going out of style any time in the foreseeable future!

Standing Seam Metal

Standing seam metal roofs are a type of roofing system that consists of long, flat panels that are attached to the roof deck with raised seams. The seams are usually made by folding the edges of the metal panels together to create a water-tight joint. The raised seams give the roof its distinctive appearance and also make it more resistant to water damage and wind uplift. Standing seam metal roofs are typically made of aluminum or steel and are known for their durability, energy efficiency, and low maintenance requirements. They are often used on commercial, industrial, and residential buildings.

Standing Seam Metal roofs often include a substantial warranty, and will most likely be the last roof you’ll ever need to buy.  Our roofing specialist can review the specifics with you to see if a standing-seam metal roof is right for your home.

TPO – Thermoplastic Polyolefin

Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) roofing is a type of single-ply roofing membrane made of a blend of thermoplastic polymer and olefin. It is a popular choice for flat or low-slope roofs due to its ease of installation, durability, and cost-effectiveness. TPO roofing is also known for its energy-saving properties, as it reflects the sun’s rays, reducing heat buildup inside the building. Additionally, TPO is a highly resistant material, providing excellent resistance to fire, wind, punctures, and chemicals. It also does not contain plasticizers or chlorides, making it environmentally friendly and safe for water runoff. Overall, TPO roofing is a cost-effective, energy-efficient, and durable option for flat roof applications.

While this is more commonly used in commercial applications, residential homes with flat or low-slope roofs find TPO roofing to be a great solution to protect their home and save energy on their cooling bills in the summer heat.

Tile

Tile roofing is a traditional roofing material made from clay or concrete. The tiles are designed to interlock and overlap to create a waterproof barrier on the roof. Tile roofing is known for its durability and longevity, often lasting over 50 years with proper maintenance. Tile roofing is also resistant to fire, wind, and insects, making it a safe and secure roofing option. Additionally, tile roofing provides excellent insulation, helping to regulate the temperature inside the building and reducing energy costs.

Tile roofing is also available in a variety of colors, styles, and shapes, allowing for customization and design flexibility. This roofing material is often used in Mediterranean and Spanish-style homes, and is a popular choice for historic or cultural preservation projects. However, tile roofing can be heavy and more expensive than other roofing options, and may require specialized installation techniques and equipment.

McStay Quality Roofing and Solar is well prepared and experienced with these specialized techniques, and can readily install this type of roof for your home.

Stone Coated Steel

Stone coated steel roofing is a type of metal roofing that is coated with a layer of stone chips. This provides the roof with a unique and attractive appearance, while also protecting the metal from corrosion and other weather-related damage. The stone chips are typically attached to the metal with an adhesive layer, and the metal is usually made of either galvanized steel or aluminum.

Stone coated steel roofing is known for its durability, energy efficiency, and low maintenance requirements. It is also resistant to fire, wind, and hail, making it a safe and secure roofing option. Additionally, stone coated steel roofing is available in a variety of colors and styles, allowing for customization and design flexibility.

Polymer or Slate

Polymer or synthetic slate roofing is a type of roofing material designed to mimic the look of natural slate tiles. It is made of a mixture of plastic and rubber polymers, and is molded into the shape of slate tiles. This material is lightweight and easier to install than natural slate, and it is also more cost-effective and durable.

Polymer slate roofing is known for its resistance to fire, wind, and impact damage, making it a safe and secure roofing option. It is also available in a variety of colors and styles, allowing for customization and design flexibility. Additionally, polymer slate roofing provides excellent insulation, helping to regulate the temperature inside the building and reducing energy costs.

Replacements

Provided that there is no unexpected interference by a severe storm or unrelenting hail, the typical lifespan of a residential roof will be between 20 and 30 years before full replacement would be necessary.

When to have an inspection by McStay Quality Roofing

    • Age
While roofs are designed to last much longer, 10 years is a good age to have your roof inspected. The harsh Texas heat can lead to a shorter life span, you may have damage from hail, wind, trees, or debris that can’t be seen from the ground. In addition, this is a good time to check all flashing and caulking.
    • Man holding a hail after a hailstorm

Hail and WindAnyone who has spent a single spring in the North Texas region can attest to the power of a hailstorm. The damage that hail can inflict on a roof is often quick and always unpleasant. Don’t wait until minor damage transforms into major damage. Give us a call, and we can assess the damage. Strong winds will often cause flipped or missing shingles that are easy to spot, but also may lead to bigger problems that should be inspected as well.

    • Leaking
If you are experiencing leaks, it is important to have a roofing expert review your roof’s condition and determine the source of the problem.
    • Granules of shingles in your gutters
If you spot excessive granules in your gutters, or on an area around your home. This could be a sign your roof is beginning to fail. It is important to have your roof professionally inspected to determine the extent of the wear.
    • Sagging of the roof line
A sagging roof line can indicate a variety of issues: water damage, excess weight, age, design flaws that are not standing the test of time, deteriorating sheathing, or other issues. If you see a sag in your roof line, it is a clear indicator for you to give us a call.
    • Foundation Repair
While most foundation repairs will not cause major issues with the roof, it does create a need for flashing and caulked areas to be inspected. Major foundations can also cause bigger issues.

We offer free-of-charge inspections of your roof to determine the best next steps. It is often the case that full replacement is not necessary, but after one of our roofing professionals is able to complete a thorough assessment of the condition of your roof, we would be able to determine all of the options available to you.

Inspections
